Lexington NY Real Estate includes the Town of Lexington which is in the western part of Greene County, bordered to the west by Delaware County and the Town of Halcott, to the south by Ulster County to the east by the Town of Hunter to the north by the Towns of Ashland, Jewett and Prattsville.

The population was 805 at the 2010 census.   The town is in the southwest part of Greene County.  The median income for a household in the town was $29,375.   The per capita income for the town was $20,471.

The town was first settled around 1788.    Lexington was originally named New Goshen by many settlers (or perhaps the influential ones) that hailed from Goshen, Connecticut.   In 1813 Lexington officially became a town from the Town of Windham.  The town name was changed to Lexington by Silas Fowler, a captain in the Revolutionary War as a patriotic reference to Lexington, Massachusetts.    A large celebration is planned for 2013 to celebrate the history of Lexington.

On August 27, 2011, Hurricane Irene (at that point, a tropical storm) inflicted damage to the town. Very heavy rainfall caused the Schoharie Creek to surge higher and cause immense widespread flooding. High wind speeds were also present. A small bridge was destroyed, and numerous houses were also washed away by the creek. Farms near the creek were flooded as well. Flash flooding also was an issue. Certain roads that run through the town were flooded and some were damaged. Many homes in Lexington lost power.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency arrived in Lexington following the storm. People volunteered for cleanup work and many donated food and clothing. Power was eventually restored to all affected areas.

Lexington is within both the Catskill Mountains and the Catskill Park. The south town line is the border of Ulster County, New York.  The Schoharie Creek flows through the town.
